Samsung UN40H6350 Review

Samsung has become the world leader in HD TV production and sales, overtaking Vizio and Sony last year (2014) as the top consumer television electronics seller in the United States.

“1080p” is the new term to know. Without going into all the finite details, there are two main types of high definition TV’s; 1080i and 720p. 1080i offers the most pixels, while 720p has fewer pixels. However, the difference is made up with the frame rate. The total pixels displayed for different models is actually very similar, with 720p offering 55 million pixels per second, while 1080 is slightly higher at 62 million pixels per second.

What type of pixel feature you choose should depend on what type of media you watch. 720p is better at showing pictures with plenty of motion, since the higher frame rate helps smooth any quick motion on the screen – this is better for sports or action movies. 1080i offers more detail, which is for movies with lots of images or panoramas.

Well say hello to 1080p! This newer pixel ratio offers the best of both worlds, 60 frames per second, and the total bandwidth is 124 million pixels per second, double that of 1080i. 1080p is definitely the preferred option – it is backwards compatible with all old formats, and is ready for upcoming high definition discs.

The Samsung UN40H6350 replaces the F6300 series from last year. There are minimal upgrades from last year. The jump to a quad core processor for speedy Smart Hub functionality is the most important change this year, while thinner bezels around the screen add to the aesthetic value.

The only differences between this model and last year’s H6400 series are the lack of 3D playback, micro-dimming, a lower Clear Motion Rate, and the Smart Touch remote.

The lack of quality with built-in sound features from Samsung is unfortunately, a long-known, acknowledged fact. If you are using a surround sound or other exterior audio systems, you will not have a problem with sound. Sound issues seemed to arise from when the consumer is using the actual TV speakers for all of the TVs sound output.

Smart Hub – Lots of Options

Samsung still presents the best overall selection of apps in their smart TV platform. When it comes to both the quality of free and paid apps, they clearly beat out the competition. The Premium Apps such as the movie services, sports and music are also top notch and include the usual Netflix, You Tube (though we like Youtube through the browser better), Facebook (browser is better here too), Twitter, Vudu, Amazon, Hulu Plus. Thanks to the new HEVC Codec streaming video looks much better and involves less buffering time.
Overall, this is another outstanding product from Samsung.
